PCH has always intrigued me. Growing up nearby Belmont Shore and attending Long Beach Polytechnic High School, I would take PCH to get to school. Crossing over Signal Hill, it always felt like I was entering a whole different world. A different side of Long Beach. One that I had not seen before.
It’s crazy to think that in a half mile span, one road can go from fast food places in sleek modern buildings near the Traffic Circle to deteriorating thrift shops and discount furniture stores. How one road connects newly developed shopping center with high end luxury stores on 2nd & PCH to a homeless shelter in the West Side. How one road connects million dollar mansions to people struggling to stay fed.
That is what I wish to explore with this photo essay. To highlight the differences of PCH, the two worlds that it sees.
